In 2006 we had approximately 230 visitors and participants at Cornucopia. About 100 of our visitors returned five or more times as new or continuing members. Some of our members assumed or continued roles as volunteers, or as directors and officers on our Board.

We had two art exhibits in 2006-with 21 artists showing in our June library show. Of these 7 were artisits showing for the first time. We also participated with some other local groups in a show on the UW-Madison campus, 6 of our artists participated in this exhibit. One of our artists sold 4 paintings from this exposure.

Our president who is a registered nurse continued a weekly wellness support group that has been very positive. Topics included Aspects of Recovery, A ssertiveness, Psychiatric Medications to Physical Health and other related topics. We provided 9 weekly art workshops with 7 led by volunteers; including 3 consumers who are developing leadership skills. All the group leaders have said they enjoy our members and contributing to the supportive environment.

Cornucopia’s monthly newsletter continued to inform and inspire people in recovery. We published 46 articles including articles on innovative programs, conditions and symptoms, world issues and government programs. There were 7 articles written by members; plus poetry and artwork of our members. Prining of our newsletter was again sponsored by Summit Credit Union in 2006.

In April about 10 members attended a legislative issues conference with Grassroots Empowerment Project, and visited legislators. We continued our educational process with issues covered in our newsletter. Twenty-five members said in our survey that they have become more aware of “advocacy issues”.

Within the public system of mental health policy, one county committee and one state committee were identified to work with and try to get member participation in 2005. By Fall our participation with the Dane County Mental Redesign Team was established. Our Program Director attended most of the County Redesign meetings in 2006.
